Processes of tempering and surface hardening Gas nitriding - saturation of iron alloys surfaces with nitrogen improves the structural state of the part, its statistical and dynamic strength, wear resistance, surface hardness and endurance limit. Thickness of the nitrated layer is 0,2-0,8 mm. Cementation – saturation of the steel surface with carbon results in a greater hardness of the item surface, wear resistance and endurance limit. As a result of cementation, steel preserves definite value of toughness. Thickness of the cementation layer is 0,5-1,5 mm.
