| Airfield “VELI”
The airfield “Veli” (“Valley”) is included in the network of Tbilisi airfield. The relief of the airfield is heavily gullied. There is about a 15-meter-deep gully running at 1700 m distance, with the river Lochini flowing through it. 10 km to South, there is Iagluji Ridge erected at the height of 384 meters from the airfield level. South-western approaches are bordered by steep slopes of the river Mtkvari. To North-west, the location is gradually elevated at 20-30 m above the airfield level, with the area settled with 15-20-meter-high buildings and premises, at 2300 meters distance from the airfield. At 3200 meters distance from the airfield, there stands a high-voltage transmission tower, followed by the city with high buildings, and at 14 km from the airfield there is Mtatsminda with the TV Tower at 616 meters above the airfield level. To North-east, there runs Tbilisi-Baku railway, with Tbilisi-Rustavi Highway and a 63-meter-high mountainous plateau running in a parallel direction, at 650 and 1100 meters distance, respectively. The airfield “Veli” is designated for test flights of the aviation techniques produced by TAM-Tbilisi Aircraft Manufacturing, takeoff and landing of freight aircrafts, post-assembly flights of ultra-light aircrafts only during the light part of the day. The airfield houses production and testing enterprise and transport airlines of TAM-Tbilisi Aircraft Manufacturing . The airfield “Veli” is located on the left bank of the river Mtkvari, south-east of Tbilisi and at 1,5 km from the railway station. Geographical coordinates (in WGS-84 system): - Latitude 41°38'58,57" N - Longitude 44°56'09,37" Е Time zone number III Magnetic deviation +5º Astronomical azimuths 14007'48"/320°07'48" The airfield has an oval shape stretching from North-west to South-east. The working area is 2830x305x405 m. Ground is a forest ground as a top layer, with sandy layer exposed here and there and covered with sparse grass. The ground gets wet during heavy rains and becomes useless for exploitation. The runaway has a concrete surface sized 1950x80 cm, with cover thickness of 15-22 cm. Cover classification number - PCN 11/R/C/V/T. Mean inclination MK=135º-315º constitutes -0,006 along the runaway; transversal inclination is -0.01. Maximum safe load conditionally for one-wheel support is 120 KN (12,232 tons). The extreme safety runaway in North-west is 150 meters. The width of the safe margins along the both sides of the runaway is 40 meters. A reserve runaway measures 1960x100 m and is located in parallel to the main runaway, in north-eastern direction.
